Whether you’re in Pekin, Galesburg, Peoria, Bloomington, Morton, Metamora or Washington, Crawford and Brinkman will provide service you can trust. Our repair services cover garage door problems like:
- Springs – Springs counterbalance the weight of your garage door, making it easier for it to open and close. However, garage door springs can break due to stress or corrosion, unbalancing your door and making it difficult and dangerous to operate. A Crawford & Brinkman technician can safely replace your door’s springs.
- Cables – The cables are part of your garage door system and work in conjunction with the springs to assist in the movement and lifting of the door. As cables age and undergo significant use, they can begin to fray, loosen or even break. In turn, this can cause dangerous malfunctions, such as your door falling mid-rise. If you notice your cables deteriorating, call Crawford & Brinkman ASAP.
- Hinges – The hinges connect the panels of your garage door, giving it the flexibility it requires to move without causing damage to your system. However, with repeated use, hinges can begin to stick, loosen, or break, significantly compromising the alignment of your garage door. Thankfully, hinges can be easily tightened or replaced by an experienced garage door technician.
- Door Tracks – Curved metal strips on either side of your garage door, called the door tracks, direct where your garage door goes. Rollers seamlessly glide along the tracks, helping with the door’s movement. If these tracks become damaged or bent, your door can get stuck or completely fall off the tracks. Crawford & Brinkman can inspect your door tracks, realigning and straightening them for smooth garage door operation.
- Door Rollers – On each side of your garage door, the rollers help keep your door moving along its tracks. Unfortunately, without proper lubrication, rollers can begin to stick, causing your garage door to shudder, squeak, grind, and eventually not open at all. Our garage door techs can replace, lubricate, or tighten your door’s rollers.
- Weather Stripping – While weather stripping doesn’t directly impact the operation of your garage door, it’s an essential component for keeping your garage dry and sealed. Unfortunately, exposure to moisture and heat can cause stripping to break down, leaving your garage’s interior vulnerable to water damage and pests. Crawford & Brinkman can easily replace worn-out weather stripping.
- Opener – The mechanical box at the top of your garage that houses the motor for your garage door is the opener. As the name implies, the opener provides the mechanized control for your door to open or close. When gears start wearing down or sensors begin failing, your opener can become inoperable. Thankfully, Crawford & Brinkman can perform regular maintenance to ensure your opener continues functioning.
- Door Panels – Aluminum or fiberglass panels make up the “door” part of your garage door system. The panels are connected by hinges and roll up and down with the assistance of springs, cables and rollers. If panels become dented or damaged due to an accidental hit, it not only reduces the aesthetic appeal of your door but can also create issues in your garage door system’s alignment. Our garage door techs can replace damaged panels.
Regarding Broken Springs
Your garage door spring is broken and you need to get to work. Do you feel like the universe is conspiring against you to make you late? Although it might feel like you’re the first to have a garage door spring break, actually garage door springs are one of the most common repairs in the garage door industry.
Here’s why: Garage door springs support the entire weight of the garage door. The springs are wound or stretched under pressure, tightening and loosening as you open or close the garage door. It is the garage door springs (not the garage door opener itself) that supports and lifts the hundreds of pounds that your garage door weighs.
And just like anything else under pressure, eventually your springs will reach a breaking point and will need replacing. Especially when it gets colder out, you will see garage door springs break more often.
If one of your garage door springs has broken, it’s wise to replace all of them at once. Why? Usually, garage door springs are installed at the same time. So it follows that since they experience similar aging and weathering, your other door springs are likely to break soon as well. Sure, you could wait until the other spring breaks on its own. But do you really want a repeat of this morning? Do you really want to run through the hassle of repairing a broken spring again?
We advise against it. We also have seen that having a new and old spring on your garage door throws off the balance of the door. You may burn out the motor on your garage door opener if your springs aren’t of the same caliber.
